Ombre Tumbler DIY

August 31, 2016

First of all, I owe a huge apology.  I learned about painting these tumblers from another blog, and I cannot find the source.  I do so want to give her credit, so if anyone has an idea of where I got this idea, I'll edit my post to give that blog proper credit.

Okay, so if you love a cold (or hot) beverage, you will want to look for stainless steel, double wall, vacuum insulated tumblers.  Yeti brand has cornered the market as the "cool brand to have," but -- and this is huge -- the Yeti brand comes with a Yeti price tag.  That price tag does not necessarily mean that the product performs better.  As a matter of fact, the Rtic brand does everything the Yeti does.  Beverages keep their temperature for hours in these wonderful tumblers.

Instead of spending $99 for a glitter ombre Yeti, I spent $18 for the plain stainless steel  20oz. tumbler and spray painted with Rustoleum Americana paints.  It takes several layers, plus drying times in between.  I then sprayed one coat of glitter and sealed it with several coats of polyacrylic sealer.  It is not food safe, but that's okay because I use a straw instead of drinking off the rim.

It's a time-consuming project, but well worth it.  This tumbler is wonderful and every bit as dependable as the Yeti!  Even with the cost of all the sprays and sealer, I still saved money and have paints to do dozens of more projects!

Get hydrated!
